Favorite for NCAA 2008 basketball champion? Who do you think the favorite is to win the 2008 NCAA men's basketball championship? I know it's a bit early to discuss, but I am already looking forward to the next season!! Please don't just name your favorite team either. Give me a solid reason in a few sentences why the team you are picking could/should win it all.
NCAA college basketball champion? I am from Ohio so therefore I am rooting for OSU to go all the way but I would not bet money on it. If i had to place money on a team I would go with North Carolina necause of their momentum after embaressing Duke on senior day. Who you got?
college basketball champions? i've been looking at a list of ncaa division 1 national champions and i noticed most teams have a pretty shallow bench. those teams typically have about a total of 8 or 9 guys on the whole team plus the head coach (some even have as few as 7) . and it's a rare thing to find a team with a full 12 man roster. i just want to know why this is.
What would have to happen to have an NCAA sanctioned championship game in Division 1 College Football? As of now, there has never been an official NCAA champion in D-1. There has been a Tostitos/Nokia/BCS trophy given to the #1 team in the past, but I notice an NCAA logo in the middle of the field for the Division 1-AA tournament finals, as well as all other sports like basketball. I have heard that the NCAA requires some kind of playoff to have a champion, and also that said playoff must factor in conference championships. Can anyone explain the rules?
NCAA Tournament? What's your pick for the 2007 NCAA Basketball Tournament Champions-I say Florida?
Who should be Sports Illustrated's Sportsman/woman of the Year? - Alex Rodriguez, for his monster season and new contract. - Billy Donovan, coach of two-time NCAA basketball champion Florida. - Lorena Ochoa, the next great woman golfer. - Peyton Manning, for his great career and Super Bowl win. - Barry Bonds, for his significance in the sports world of the early 21st century (that seems the best way to describe his "accomplishments"). - Somebody else?
What do you think of my NCAA D-I football playoff system? Use the BCS to seed teams in a 16-team playoff. You seed them like they do for the NCAA basketball tournament. That would give you four rounds, consisting of 15 games. You use 15 of the current bowls, thus applying some meaning to some otherwise meaningless bowls. Suddenly, even people attending the Outback Bowl could be watching the eventual national champion; that ain't gonna happen now. Since it'd take four weeks, you hold the first round on New Year's Day, then follow on the next two Saturdays, take a week off, then hold your championship on the weekend that the NFL takes off between its conference championships and Super Bowl. (You'd have the weekend all to yourself.) Apply that formula to this year's 1-16 BCS teams and you'll see some pretty interesting matchups.
Are You In Favor Of A College Football Playoff? There appears to be parity in College Football, with no clear number 1 team. I think we could take the top 16 teams and have a playoff to determine a true national champion. The NCAA Basketball Tournament is very exciting, and I like to see that same excitement in College Football. What do you think?
Why can't NCAA football have a playoff similar to the one used for basketball's 'March Madness'? The odd thing is that the 'lower' divisions actually DO have a playoff, and no one contests the final winner, or national champion in their respective division. So, why the heck can't the 'big boys' get with that sort of program? Could the corporate sponsorship, representing millions to the participating schools have anything to do with the bowl approach? And does a playoff arrangement actually mean the bowl system couldn't still be used? The bowls could just be the regional playoffs. In fact, there might even be more bowls, with the number of schools involved in the BCS system. This one has bugged me for years. Too much controversy every year about who the heck is 'Number one' after the major college football season.
who do you think is going to win the ncaa basketball tournament this year? anybody think My Uconn huskies have a legit chance of being a sleeper team that could go to the final four or possibly win it all behind a.j. price who is one of the most underated guards carryin g this team hasheem thabeet one of the best shot blockers at his postion starting to get an offensive gamein the nation keeps getting better jeff adrien with his toughness very scrappy that has good post moves a great power forward at uconn doug wiggins making big shots and free throws off the bench playing well down the stretch stanley robinson one of the best defenders in his positon very solid at the 3 craig austrie stepping up playing in the absense of jerome dyson and when jerome dyson comes back there leading scorer how hard do u think it will be to beat uconn in the tournament and dont u see them making a run to possibly being a champion or making it to the elite 8 or final 4?
New NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament System? Lately people have been criticizing the Tourney system, because they wine that there teams should have gotten in. Well I thought of a new system that could work, here it is: Once the Conference Tournaments are done they should take the top 5 conferences based on RPI and take the champions of them and give them automatic bids, then have the 6-31 conference champions have a tournament, then have the top 8 teams get automatic bids in that tournament, and the rest are out, so then there would only be 13 automatic bids instead of 31 automatic bids. Also the champion of that tournament get a guarenteed 8 seed at least. Yea but the top 3 teams have only lost like 17 times in however long college basketball has been around, which is not very fun games to watch
The 2nd part of my Basketball Questions? 15.Where and when did the game of basketball make it’s Olympic debut? 16.I was played for the first time on April 4, 1896. 17.We won the very first Men’s NCAA Tournament. 18.Our school won the Men’s NCAA Championship in 1966, using the first starting team of all African-American players. 19.I hold the record for most blocked shots in one Men’s NCAA Tournament game. 20.I shot 22 3-point shots in one Men’s NCAA Tournament game. 21.As a freshman, I was the Men’s NCAA Tournament most outstanding player in 2003. 22.Six times we have been the Women’s NCAA Tournament champions. 23.I have been the home of the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) finals since it began in 1938. 24.Our school has won the most Men’s NCAA Tournament games in history, 99. 25.We scored the most total team points combined in one Men’s NCAA Tournament, 571. 26.In 1971 we made the most free throws in a row without missing, 22-22.
Who won the Tournaments MVP award in 1966? In 1966 texas-El Paso beat Kentucky to become the NCAA Division 1 Basketball Champions. Who won the Tournament's Most Valuable Player Award even though his team WAS NOT in the Championship game?
Which is better, the NBA or College Basketball? In any sport, the professionals are always more fun to watch than the college athletes. In the NCAA, you get ugly basketball and have to watch teams like UCLA go deep in March Madness. The NBA has stars like Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Nash, plus many more who are fun to watch. The NBA always has the best team as a champion, and upsets are not flukes. The Warriors were a great upset team and deserved it. In the NCAA, you get fluke teams every year that just get hot in the tourney like George Mason a few years ago. Plus the college players never stay long, so you never really get to see a team grow and develop. In the NBA, rivalries are established with the same players battling each year. The choice is simple, the NBA has better athletes, that are far more skilled, and more fun to watch. The level of play is so much highier it is a joke to say NCAA is better. Before anyone offers the competitive basketball arguement, ill say high school b ball can be competitive as well.
Do you have a good playoff system instead of the BCS? Here is mine and what do you think. Take the 4 champions from the BCS confrence, they get homefield advantage for their first game Add 4 Wild Card teams(Hand picked by members of all 3 polls, yes I stole that from the NCAA basketball style) The second round is played at whoever won by more points in the first round game teams field Championship game played at a neutral site.
Why can't College bowl games be like NFL playoffs, the winners going to the next bowl? Bowl games make money for schools, and add honor to the programs; so if a school can keep winning they can make more $$ and a True National Champion can be decided easliy , just like NCAA Basketball! the final game can be just before the Super Bowl! Right now the situation is a joke. may I add the term "corrupt"? so we might have to add a few more playoff bowl games, what is wrong with that?
why is there no NCAA women's bracket ? everybody is so hyped up about the ncaa mens basketball championship that there is even a bracket made for them. That is great and all, but i was wondering why there is no womens bracket. They have the same championship going on. They are playing the exact same sport. And they are fighting for the exact same trophy that only says womens champion instead of men champions. So why no bracket? I really do not get why everyone always puts off women sports like that. I may be only 15 but i do not quite think its fair. In fact i think it is sexist.
Is this a good way to replace the BCS with this? Have every conference champion even the small schools have a lock in the playoffs. Then a committee like in NCAA Basketball choose at least one or two teams from each conference to play in bowl games while the conference champions also play each other. So one bracket would have the Conference champs and another conference would have the non-conference champs. And then the conference champ plays the winner of the loser bracket for the National Championship. No the teams that didn't make the playoffs will still play in bowl games.
How would a playoff system work for NCAA football? There are 11 conferences and four independent teams. It would be difficult to have a 64 team field like in basketball. (Football is much more physically grueling than basketball is.) There would inevitably be some teams left out who feel that they should be there. For example, what if the runners up in the PAC 10, Big 10, Big 12, SEC, Big East, or ACC each had only one or two losses, on the year, and those were to top 25 teams, but the champion of the Conference USA or Sun Belt conference were undefeated. Who would be left out? This is a dilemma that I haven't heard anything about. What would be a fair way of deciding who gets to play in the playoffs and who stays home?
I have some Basketball questions, but not how to play the game, as in top moments? 1.I invented the game of basketball in 1891. 2.I was born on August 3, 1949. 3.We were champions of the 2003 Men’s NCAA championship. 4.Our school won 7 consecutive Men’s NCAA titles from 1967-73. 5.I scored the most points ever in one NCAA tournament game, 61. 6.We made up the very first Men’s NCAA All-tournament team. 7.We won the first Women’s NCAA title in 1982. 8.I am the oldest college basketball tournament, first played in 1938. 9.I scored the most total points in NCAA tournament history, 407. 10.Three years in a row I was the Men’s NCAA tournament’s most outstanding player. 11.Our team scored the highest amount of points in one Men’s NCAA tournament game, 149. 12.Our two teams scored the fewest number of points combined in one Men’s NCAA Tournament game, 46. 13.What is the total number of teams that play in the Men’s NCAA tournament? 14.How many times has the #16 seeded (ranked) team beaten the #1 seeded team in Men’s NCAA history?
Is this a good way to replace the BCS? Have every conference champion even the small schools have a lock in the playoffs. Then a committee like in NCAA Basketball choose at least one or two teams from each conference to play in bowl games while the conference champions also play each other. So one bracket would have the Conference champs and another conference would have the non-conference champs. And then the conference champ plays the winner of the loser bracket for the National Championship. Also the teams that did not make the playoffs would just play in normal bowl games.
Who has accomplished most at 23? Kareem: 1969 Naismith Award 3x NCAA Champion 2x USBWA College Player of the Year 3x NCAA Basketball Tournament MOP ROTY MVP NBA champion Finals MVP 2 all-defensive teams (two years) 2 time all-star 2 time all-nba Bill Russell: NBA champion MVP all-star (2 years) all-nba Would have made all-defensive teams and won Finals MVP had they been invented Kobe: 3 NBA championships 4 time all-star selection 4 time all-nba team selection 3 time all-defensive team selection 1 time all-star game MVP Lebron: ROTY (that he STOLE from Carmelo Anthony, click here if you disagree: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuvmQkwNF1SujIER8lcdcxjty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080322150840AA2bmPw 4 time all-star 4 time all-nba team 2 time all-star game MVP Lebron got 4 with the newest one Kareem also played in a tighter league with less teams allowing talent to build up and each one. If there were only 15 teams instead of 30 in todays game, you can only imagine the teams you would have to face, like 2 or 3 all-stars on each easily. Every team would have a Boston three party. Ah, I forgot about Magic. He was better than Lebron too... An accomplishment is an accomplishment. There is no award for getting a conference championship without your second best player. If I listed things that weren't official awards, I would have a field and I'm sure you would too. Like: Lebron: 2-2 without Ilgauskas in season where he was 22. Kobe: 5-3 without Shaq in season where he was 22. Pretty meaningless. Statistical (as in records with/without) Lebron needed the Big Z as much as Kobe needed Shaq. I think Kobe without Shaq was like 9-8 before he turned 24? Lebron without Big Z in his career is 11-10, and Shaq is the MUCH better player so that says a lot about Lebron and him needing his teammates.
Make a case for whoever you think is the best basketball player of all time? Say why you think this person should be considered the G.O.A.T., and what put them ahead of the field. I think it's Michael Jordan, here's why : Awards NCAA Champion '82 14 time All-Star Olympic Gold Medalist—1984, 1992 Five time MVP—1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998 7 time The Sporting News MVP Rookie of the Year—1984 Defensive Player of the Year—1988 11 times All-NBA—10 times first team, 1 time second team 9 time All-Defensive First Team Sports Illustrated "Sportsman of the Year"—1991 Named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996 Records Most scoring titles—10 Most NBA Finals MVP awards—6 Highest career scoring average—30.12 Highest career scoring average playoffs—33.45 Most consecutive games scoring in double figures—866 Highest single series scoring average NBA Finals—41.0 (1993) "By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time."-Doug Collins "There's Michael Jordan and then there is the rest of us." —Magic Johnson "Michael is the best overall basketball player ever." -Steve Kerr Jordan scored a playoff record 63 points against the Boston Celtics in 1986, Celtics star Larry Bird described him as "God disguised as Michael Jordan. Jordan's total of 5,987 points in the playoffs is the highest in NBA history. He retired with 32,292 points placing him third on the NBA's all-time scoring list behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone. In 1988, he was honored with the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year Award and became the first NBA player to win both the Defensive Player of the Year and MVP awards in a career He set records for blocked shots by a guard, and combined this with his ball-thieving ability to become a standout defensive player. His 2,514 steals are the second of all-time behind John Stockton and had 3 steal titles in his career. ESPN ranked him as the best athlete of the 20th century. I could go on and on about why MJ is the greatest ever, but I'm getting tired of typing all this, so you tell me who is the greatest and why?
If you were a college basketball player? Would you rather: A. Go to the NIT, and become the eventual champion? B. Become a 16th seed in the NCAA Tournament and lose your first game? Alright, let's say you put up one hell of a fight vs. the #1 seed in the NCAA Tourney, and barely lose. Would that change anything?
What are the odds? That the current reigning NCAA football and basketball champion Florida Gators can make it a tirfecta and win the College World Series? They are currently 18-13. I think we are safe from having to see another Gator chomp for awhile don't you? Trifecta!!!! Sometimes I type faster than I should :)

Geographic Region: Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky / East Chicago, Indiana Brock, James "Jim" James Brock was the second head basketball coach at William Grant High School (WGHS) in Covington, Kentucky, coaching there from 1955 to 1965. Like other African American school teams in Kentucky, WGHS was a member of the Kentucky High School Athletic League (KHSAL). The counter league, Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA), was for whites only until school integration began in the mid-1950s. The 1956-1957 WGHS team was the first African American basketball team to win a district tournament in the KHSAA tournament. As more African American students were allowed to attend the formerly all white schools, there was an impact on the pool of high school athletes that had been restricted to the all black schools. In 1965, the year that William Grant High School was closed, the basketball team won only five games. The season was a far cry from the winning seasons that had garnered the school a win-loss record of 185-69 during Brock's years as head coach. With the closing of William Grant, Brock moved on to Cincinnati, where he continued to successfully coach high school sports. James Brock was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Black Hall of Fame and the KHSAA Hall of Fame in 2000. For more see Shadows of the past, by L. Stout; Many tried, few defeated William Grant in '50s, '60s, The Cincinnati Post, 02/23/1998; and Dawahares/KHSAA Hall of Fame class of 2000 inductees announced, 06/21/1999, at the KHSAA website. He then was an assistant coach under Clem Haskins for five years at Western Kentucky University until 1986, when he became an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky. Casey was the third former player to become an assistant coach at UK and the first African American to do so. In 1988 he filed a $6.9 million suit against the Emery Air Freight Corp. and the employees who claimed to have discovered $1,000 cash in a package Casey sent to the father of California basketball player Chris Mills. [The suit was eventually settled out of court.] Casey resigned from the UK in 1989. He later served as an assistant coach overseas and in the NBA. The Body Of Work. Have you noticed that many announcers are now using the statement "The body of work"? I find it truly amazing that a statement by Les Miles the coach of the NCAA College Football National Champion LSU Tigers can find itself being propagated by many TV announcers I've never really heard of. I've heard it used by multiple College basketball announcers all the way through to Tennis and Golf personalities. What's with this new term coined by Ol' Les. Have you heard it and are you tired of/overjoyed hearing it? When will it end? Let me know how you feel. My Bad!!! I've never heard of it in my short 44 years on this planet. Until Les started campaigning for the National Title Game I had never, ever heard it used in sports terminology before. Thanks.
How good are the city of Boston's chances at sweeping the Chamionships in every sport? Look at Bostons teams in the major sports: NFL and NCAA Football, MLB Baseball, and NBA Basketball. NFL you have the Patriots, a team that many predict to win the Super Bowl and possibly go undefeated, the Red Sox, who just came back from a 3-1 deficit against my Indians and made the World Series, and the Celtics, who just picked up Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett to benefit Paul Pierce. The Red Sox are 4 wins away from being World Series Champions, the Patriots are Super Bowl favorites, and the Celtics could make a run to the NBA finals, also Boston College football is #2 in the nation. What are the chances of the Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots all being Champions in their respective sports, also what is Boston College's chances in the National Title race (Id say BC has slim to none, but still, they are #2 and in this season, how can you assume anything)? I just want to see some good Championships this season. I want to see a Boston/ Phoenix Finals. That would be something else. "The Big Three from the desert and the Big Three from New England meet to decide who reigns supreme in the NBA." Imagine Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, KG, Steve Nash, Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire, and Steve Nash all in the same NBA Finals. That would go 7 games and would have every household in America tuned in. I know BC would get killed by any other top 10 team, but Im not going to talk until my Buckeyes come out of Happy Valley unscathed and 9-0, and even then, we still have Illinois, Wisconsin, and the team from that mitten shaped state standing in the way of New Orleans.

Who do you think the BEST player in the NBA TODAY is? I'm going with Allen Iverson, here's why: Iverson is the third leading scorer in NBA history. He has averaged 27.9 points per game in his career, trailing all-time leader Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain in this category by only 2.2 points per game. Iverson is one of only 30players in NBA history to score over 20,000 points in his career, and he was the 6th fastest in the history of the game to achieve this feat. Awards: Big East Rookie Of The Year - NCAA Big East Defensive Player Of The Year - NCAA (1996) NBA Rookie of the Year (1997) All-Star Rookie Game Most Valuable Player (1997) All Rookie First Team (1997) NBA Most Valuable Player (2001) NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player (2001) NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player (2005) 4-time NBA Scoring Champion 3-time All NBA First Team Selection 3-time All NBA Second Team Selection 3-time NBA Steals Champion 8-time NBA All-Star Team USA Basketball Captain (2004) Widely considered the best under 6ft. player of all time. In just two years he became the Hoya's all time leading scorer. John Thompson on AI, "What people don't understand about Allen, is as much as an offensive threat he is, he's even better defensively, he's one of the best players I've ever coached defensively." Single-handedly lead the Sixers to the Finals without a star teammate. (Kobe has yet to lead his team out of the first round without one.) So I think it's AI.
