Can someone explain Fantasy Basketball scoring to me?

I am in an NBA Fantasy League and I do not understand how the scoring works. I am in 3rd in my league and on the main screen it says each teams points for the year, and then a point change column based on the game the night before. I checked in setting and it just says what stats are counted, but nothing about how the scores are tallied. Just this past night I had all my players play decent and I went down 1.5 points total, and some times I go up points when I think my guys play bad....whats up? If anyone can explain to me how the scoring works in Yahoo Basketball leagues that would be great. Thanks.

  1. assuming this is a roto legue, your stats are compiled by category. your FG anf FT%, 3's, pt's, reb's, asst's, st's, blks', and TO's. Over the course of the night, your players who play get these stats. They are then combined into a big pool of stats from all the previous games you have played. Your points go up and down relative to what your players have done VERSUS the rest of the league's players. So while your players did great one night, if the guy had 12 games going and you had 6, he will catch up because he has 2 times the stats going in on that night. But dont worry, the next day you might have 10 players to his 2, so it all works out in the end. Your goal is to look at full standings, and improve on the areas of stats that you are getting less league points in. For example, if you got 2 points in steals, it means you are the second worst for this stat. You need to start players who get more steals (while not ruining other categories) In the end, the ultimate goal is to use all available 82 games. So click on the maximum games link and make sure you dont have any negative numbers. If you can do this, you have a good chance of winning or staying competitive,
  2. obviously, you're playing in a roto league. the main idea in a roto league is to have fantasy teams ranked from first to last in each of several statistical categories. Points are then awarded according to the order of finish in each category and are totaled to determine an overall score and place. in other words, scoring is based on where your team is ranked in each statistics. lets say if your league has 10 teams, and you are leading the total points, your team will get 10 points. if your second in total rebounding you get 9 points to your team total. if you're finished last in total steals, you only got 1 point. in your case, your players did played a decent game but only in some category(ies), but in other category (ies), you didnt get enough numbers and your opponent has already overtaken you in some other categories, thus losing 1.5 total points to your team also in roto league, dont look on your total score of your team that is shown in the league standing, but concentrate in total statistical categories to see where you can improve more. you can look for these by clicking at the upper right corner of your league standing. hope this will help
