why do basketball players slap each others butts instead of patting their backs??

1. they do both...also american football (not soccer) players do that too. its like congratz.
2. Its like a "well done" sort of thing and many sports involve "ass smacking" (in a non homosexual way)!
3. Its like a Great Job, that shot was beautiful kinda thing or anything else...and sometimes people don't notice it when they pat your back...who knows it could be another team person hitting you....or something... lol

5. well guys do it cause they can't hug each other like girls can, cause that would just make it look like they are gay. so this is another way to say good job.some guys say that that it takes too long to high five other people and that it is quicker to butt slap while they pass by their players.i hope i helped!!!!
