college basketball and ranking futility?

Does it really matter if college basketball teams get ranked if they're going to the dance anyway.... I mean it's not college football where ranking actually do matter. So what's the significance of NCAAB rankings???

1. isnt it because depending on your ranking and record you will either get home court advantage or not
2. Yeah it does have importance in the tournament, besides that it's not like college football... whoever goes to which bowl or the national championship. Also the guy above me most polls do better records as who's number one, but others vote on whoever has the toughest schedule so far (or weakest). ViNcAnItY FoR LiFe!!!
3. I would say rankings are more for the press who like to think they know more then other people about who is and is not good. Too bad rankings are rife with biases and is generally more based on popularity then how good a team is. IE Ohio State was #1 in football.. why? beating Kent state and big 10 teams was not that impressive
