Has anyone else noticed almost all Duke basketball players are white?
I was watching Duke/Maryland the other night, and this kind of hit me. It seems like Duke teams are almost all predominantly white. This struck me as really odd. I don't think coach K is a racist or anything, that's not what this question is about. I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. Also, It seems like a lot (not all) of Duke's players aren't really all-star NBA material, at least, not as many as you'd think coming from such a talented program. I know Grant Hill and others are out there, but really in comparison to other schools, it seems there are a lot less. It also seems coach K gets a lot more 4-year kids, and not as many of these one year, "can't wait to get in the NBA," kids to play for him. I could be crazy, but I really think there's something to all of this (except maybe the white thing, lol). I just wanted to see if I was the only one who saw this or not. Feel free to tell me I'm crazy if I am... lol 8*) To clarify, there is no real point to this question (I'm just a bored insomniac). And there is another side to it, but they only give me a thousand letters. 8*)

- christian laettner white as snow nba material whats your point i like to see some white guys with game
- if your gonna point out that all the duke team is white why not point out that almost all the other teams are black? Show both sides of it instead of one
- Every point you raise is valid.
- Besides basketball Duke is a top school education-wise so most of the kids go there to actually get their degrees, even the basketball players. There are some exceptions but like you said most Duke players go for all 4 years and only some make it in the NBA. It's probably coincidence. Look at Florida the past two championship years they made it with a predominately black team, after their kids left the kids that replaced them are mostly white mind you its not the staffs racism or anything. alot of top basketball recruits usually think about going to Florida it just so happens this year it is mostly white kids.
- Yah you're crazy man!!!! lol Vote for me :) the best answer you can get :)
- There are several reasons for this. First, Duke was always a school where kids didn't leave early. All that changed when Elton Brand bolted. That actually didn't sit well with Duke, and several early defections rocked the program. Coach K shifted his focus a little after that. While he still recruits guys like Dang who won't stay long, he focuses more on guys who want to be college players (regardless of NBA potential). Coach K values team chemistry greatly and he actually prefers to build this way as opposed to loading up with "one and done" guys that can give you a one year burst but then set you back. Additionally, look at the school. In reality, Duke is an academically arrogant institution filled with nerdy elitist white kids who attend school there to make six figures the year they graduate. The girls are hideous, and outside of the athletic department the black student base is probably less than 3%. If you were an inner city athlete from New York or Chicago, would you want to spend your time on that campus? Probably not.
- Funny question, but so true. I think a lot of players fear coach K. Think about it, how would Michael Jordan do at Duke under coach K, compared to UNC where they barely run an offense? Coach K is discipline all the way. Most players want to get to the league and only show what they can do in college. So why go to a school where its all about the team and running a strict offense. Black, white or Hispanic ballers who want to get noticed and leave school early will not go to Duke. Look for interviews where KG, Lebron and Kobe were asked "what college would they have gone to if not straight to the NBA?" I bet they pick any school where a ESPN highlight is like a 4yr Degree... Lol.
- you guys are forgetting one thing. Its a private school. Its very hard to get in even if your an athlete or just a smart kid. I like Coach K hes a great coach and he graduates his kids and guess where he learned how to coach and teach is kids..Coach Bobby Knight when he was playing for knight at army.
- "Look for interviews where KG, Lebron and Kobe were asked "what college would they have gone to if not straight to the NBA?" I bet they pick any school where a ESPN highlight is like a 4yr Degree... Lol." Actually Kobe said that if he went to college, he would want to play under Coach K at Duke. That is why when the Lakers needed a new coach after Shaq was traded and Phil Jackson left, Kobe insisted to Lakers management to get Coach K.
- ever heard of carlos boozer? NBA all-star. Duke alumni. black.
