why do people hate duke basketball?

besides fans of UNC. they're a great organization, have a great coach, rely on teamwork and chemistry rather than star power and selfishness, don't break recruiting rules, players don't get into trouble, etc. all of these things are what ideal basketball programs should be like, so why does everyone hate duke? is it just because they've been so good for so long? I can understand that people hate the yankees b/c they outspend everyone, but ncaa rules prevent that and duke follows them. criticisms about style of play (flopping, whining about calls) hold true for EVERY basketball team. is it because of the cameron crazies? they're what fans should be like...die hard, supportive, etc. is it because duke is a rich school? well so is stanford, but that's still a stupid reason to hate them, given all the progress made in college financial aid in recent years i just don't get it

4. why people hate duke basketball? that is a common question. the answer is that they are jealous that their team isn't as great as the duke blue devils. that is why they are hated. the acc is the best conference and they have the best team in the Duke Blue Devils.
5. your right, duke is an amazing program. i say legendary even, and honestly people just love to hate the best. it doest make sense but its true. I LOVE DUKE, so even i have to deal with the haters... and i like in texas lol. ... and oh, cause most of the players have been good looking too lol

Because many of the players on the team become busts in the NBA, like Shelden Williams, Shane Battier, JJ Redick, Josh McRoberts, (Lattanaer?) etc. Only few that are good are Carlos Boozer and Grant Hill. The players are overrated like Tyler Hansborough and JJ. The Coach K makes them look too good.
7. I don't, very fun team to watch. Mike always has them playing team ball, and that to me is better to watch than a one man show!!

9. i think it's because duke players aren't as successful as UNC players when they're in the NBA. otherwise, i love the dukies, they have a great coach and players, too.

11. i am a UNC fan so i dont like duke. i know some people who dont like duke but its because duke has a great program and i think they r jealous of that. i also think its because some people think that duke is where the spoiled rich kids go. i dont hate duke as much as i used to because i hav a friend who is probably going there and i may end up having to as well. duke is a great school..... but UNC rox.

13. Duke is hated because they're a dirty team that is smart enough to get away with it. They get every call possible. They foul low where the officials don't see. They don't play with class (See: Gerald Henderson). Their fans are even more annyoing than Maryland fans (who are seriously annoying). And Dick Vitale loves them.

15. I dislike poor sportsmanship and classless displays during games. Not Duke, you say? I say otherwise. Coach K has a potty mouth that any idiot watching the TV can read on his lips. Great example of class there, Coach. NOT. The players curse just as bad........generates the same opinion of the players and school. Players throw tantrums and approach refs to complain about calls........suppose to be a no-no in the sport. Have you seen a technical thrown for it? Neither have I. I became a Tarheel fan when Dean Smith came to the school. He was the kind of coach I wanted to support. He did all the right things and projected a classy look for the college. Even his players have said the man never used curse words. He encouraged them to go to church while at college, and to do community service....and most important of all......GRADUATE!
16. There's a long history, but I'll give you a couple of examples to illustrate the reasons. Scott Williams played for UNC in the late '80s. He lost both of his parents in a murder-suicide. In the Duke-UNC game at Cameron, he was greeted with shouts of "Orphan." This kind of behavior is common at Duke. I've been to a lot of basketball games in various forums, but I've never heard a mouth as foul as Coach K's. Yet he holds himself out as a role model. "Mom" above is correct that the players are equally foul-mouthed. Hypocrisy and arrogance are two of the main reasons people across the country hate Duke. I'll link a couple more reasons.

18. Join the club. I don't think the Duke basketball team has ever given anyone a reason to hate them. They play their hearts out every single game, they have a coach that teaches them the right things. Their fans are the best in the country. I think people just like to hate a team that is good because there are a lot of fans of teams that don't win nearly as much and there are coaches of other teams that don't help shape the players like they should. Duke is a prestigous school and has a prestigous basketball team. Not long from now I think Coach K will be looked at as another John Wooden so why people are giving him a hard time is beyond me other coaches like to twist his words around into something he didn't say and make him look like the bad guy when in reality he is a standup guy. Go Blue Devils!
