Private college basketball scholarship?

How much money does a private college generally give out for a basketball scholarship? I know it depends on ability but just generally how much does an average player going to that college get since private colleges are so much, I would guess quite a bit??

  1. It really does vary. I worked at a private college for several years and some students were awarded a $1000 for the year, while others were awarded the entire amount. It certainly depends on ability, but it also depends on how much money the coach has for scholarships. Most private schools do not have that much money for scholarships, therefore they tend to give out several smaller scholarships. However, most private colleges also have scholarships for academics, so you if you have good grades, you may be able to get a combination of an athletic and academic scholarship that would be close to having everything covered. Be sure to file your FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Most coaches at private colleges work closely with the financial aid office to use rescourses from everywhere to get students they really want. If you can qualify for some federal and state grants, the coach can make up the difference with a scholarship. Good luck!
