If NCAA football had a similiar single elimnation tournament to decide the national champion like?

ncaa basketball, would it be an even bigger phenomenon?

1. You could not count the amount of $$$ that tournament would make. I wish the college predidents would come to the 21st century and make it happen, but as we all know the NCAA and college presidents move slower than glaciers. a 32 team playoff would be the bomb. We can only dream right now. I mean I rather watch a tournament game instead of three Big 10 vs MAC, PAC 10 vs WAC, Big 12 vs C-USA, Notre Dame vs Military schools or $EC vs Sun Belt schools games every year.
2. i think the top eight teams from four regions in a play off system is a fair compromise to the messed up BCS system we now have. we have seen year after year that just because a team is ranked all year doesn't mean they are that competitive.
3. I think a 4-team format is best to start off with. It will be difficult to make a bigger change than this. The biggest problem with creating a single elimination tournament is diluting the importance of the regular season. If you make the tournament into a 8 or 16 team field, then a 3-loss team could win the championship... The regular season wouldn't be as important as getting ready for the playoffs.
