in ncaa college sports, why do fans pull down the goal post and why they cut off the basketball net?

in ncaa football, after a big game, why do fans and many people jump on the goal post and pull it down? and wouldnt that be hard to do since it is built into the ground? how do they pull it down? and in ncaa basketball, why do they cut off the basetball net? i dont know whether it is the players or the fans, because i don watch ncaa, but they cut off the net, while on a ladder. i want to know why?

  1. The goal posts aren't anchored very well. Most schools prohibit fans from ruching the field after big games now. The pulling down of goal posts has killed and injured many people. I don't don't know when it started. I don't know when coaches and players cut down the net either. They do it after they win the championship or other huge games. It is kind of a tradition now.
