NCAA basketball champion?
Of all the past winners, which was the biggest upset and why?
Public Comments
- NC State, when they won it back in 1983. This was the biggest upset in my lifetime, because NC State wouldn't have even made the Tournament had they not won the ACC Tournament. Then they beat Houstin in the Finals, despite Houston having 2 of the future greatest NBA Players to ever play the game.
- When the Texas team of all black starters for the first time in history a small Texas school beat Kentucky and way back when Pat Riley was in college
- 1985 NCAA Champion Villanova Villanova over Georgetown was the biggest upset in NCAA history because Georgetown was an overwhelming favorite at number 1 seed while Villanova was 8th seed. Plus Georgetown had Patrick Ewing that alone made them scary to face and Villanova was able to pull off the victory.
- I agree on Villanova. I don't know if a #8 seed has ever done what they've done in 85, especially going against such a monster in Ewing and the Hoyas. Classic run. Ask this question on RootZoo.com and you'll get some great responses. Check it out, you'll like it.
- The 1985 Villanova Wildcats against my G-town Hoyas and the reason it still the biggest upset because the Hoyas were favored to win it all that year. Now, the Hoyas will win their 2nd title in over 20+ years against the Florida Gators in the championship and yes we will smoke some Buckeyes this saturday. Partner you better believe it.
- Texas Western over the University of Kentucky back in the '60's. They made a movie about it called Glory Road. No other NCAA upset has ever had a movie made about it. Kentucky was picked to win, but the all black squad of Texas Western upset the all white Kentucky team.
